A letter from Samuel D. Hastings acknowledging Lewis Tappan's letter from April 12 which was enclosed with a check for $200, "the amount of H. [Hopper's?] note forwarded to you." In his letter, Hasting thanks Tappan for collecting the note and remitting the amount. He writes that he has read Tappan's remarks on his queries about New York Free Churches and feels "under great obligations to you for your kindness in writing your views so fully on the subject." He adds that he will have the Amistad Committee's appeal published in the Pennsylvania Freeman and do what he can to raise more money.
