Vladimir
Description
This subcollection from the William C. Brumfield Collection -- Photographs of Russian Architecture contains photographs of the city of Vladimir, located on the Kliazma River to the northeast of Moscow. Vladimir was one of the medieval political and cultural centers of Russia, with architectural monuments dating back to the 12th century, including the Cathedral of the Dormition. These monuments have been designated UNSESCO World Heritage Sites as part of the Whitestone Monuments of Vladimir and Suzdal. The city’s economy is based on industry and administration but also has an important component of tourism related to its architectural sites.
