In this interview Dent talks about his upbringing and family history. He describes multiple members from his family and the impact that they had on them. He talks about his experience growing up and how he has to relate it to his writing
Dent begins this interview by talking about his family and more specifically his parents and grandparents. He talks about his dad and what he did in his career. Dent says his dad was influenced by the president of Dillard University. He speaks about Morehouse. He talks about what school life was like at Morehouse and his father's involvement. He talks about the business that his dad was involved in and how he dealt with it. Dent says his father was very loyal and consistent. He then talks about his mother and who she was. Dent says his mom was spoiled and never experienced many hard times. He says he was never fazed by material things and his father influenced him to do that. Dent says he grew up in a good environment. He says he was closest it his dads grandma and learned a lot from he while he was young. Dent talks about the identity he had with all of the different influences she had. He concludes by talking about the details of the black experience and how it relates to him.
