Dent mainly talks about some of the jobs he has had while working in New York and New Orleans. He describes some of what he experienced and people he met along the way. He describes what it was like pursuing a career in writing and actually getting to publish a newspaper.
This interview begins with Rogers and Dent discussing his house and the positives and negatives of it. Rogers then asks him about his experience with the movement and what it has done for him. Dent starts talking about growing up in New Orleans. He looks back on the education he had and how it helped form who he is today. Dent talks more about how he felt growing up and the struggles he had. He talks more on the jobs that he had and how being in the north helped develop him. He touches on his service in the military and trying to become a writer afterwards. Dent explains how he really wanted to pursue a career in writing for something like a newspaper. He says he was roommates with Andrew Young for a while. He talks about when he met with Langston Hughes and how he helped him get two of his poems published. Dent talks about a guy named Calvin Hicks and a guy named Tom Feelings who became he became friends with. He concludes by talking about how they worked together to publish the newspaper titled On Guard.
