A letter from Annie Porter to her father, Lansing, letting him know that she has had a cold and that it has begun to snow. Annie brags that she can now make coffee and get breakfast which she and Lansing (Jr.) do before their mother and older sister wake up. She tells her father about how her teacher has gone away so she has a new one. Annie mentions that she has given up hoping that her father will write to her. Elizabeth, Lansing Porter's wife, fills the rest of Annie's paper by informing him of the horrible weather and the day's sermon.
