The first page and a half of the letter is illegible. In the latter half, Zavala talks of articles in Nicaraguan and Guatemalan newspapers. He mentions finding out from a correspondence with Sr. Soto that General Barrios mistrusts him [Zavala]. He is eager to receive a reply to a previously sent letter regarding this situation. He notes that Sr. Castellón is again the prefect of New Segovia and is charged with maintaining order regarding emigrants. He relates that he has landed in Corinto to stay with the family of Sr. Dueños and the press is now established in Leon. Sr. Lopez had a good stay with his [Zavala's] family and received a letter from him via Sr. Juan.
