Bucking wood
Description
Man stands beside a large log. Written on verso: "Bucking wood for burning in a donkey engine. This man was born in Baltimore Md., grew up as a wharf rat, a bookbinder by trade, went west to the Dakotas harvest because of ill health and after hitting the lumber camps for a year became a tramp. He has live or worked in nearly every state of the union, in Alaska, northern Canada, England, France, Italy, Constantinople, Africa, Australia, has learned a number of trades and has developed a philosophy and poetic imagination from years spent in the outdoors and nights under the stars. He was an enthusiastic one. WW when I knew him at the age of 40."
