In this thesis, I explore the intersection between dance and ecological conservation education. I created a lecture demonstration using age-appropriate dance activities and my experience researching birds in Ecuador to emphasize embodiment practices to help second and third-graders build a sense of empathy towards species they may not be able to identify with or understand. With this project, I intend to spark a sense of curiosity about birds and help the concept of conservation become less abstract among young audiences. During the lecture demonstration, we watch a brief video of birds dancing, learn about bird behavior, dance like birds, and discuss everyday conservation practices to help the birds we see every day.
