Abstract for Reese: [00:00–09:14] Della Reese, in a July 1973 interview conducted via phone while in Miami, recalls how she first met Mahalia Jackson, when she came to (Reese's) church one Sunday in Detroit. At this first meeting, Reese was 13 years old and singing in the church's youth choir – 00:47. She discusses her being a teenaged, singing member of three of Jackson's summer tours of religious revivals in the South – 02:13. She specifies how Jackson influenced her methods of communication, as opposed to her singing style – 04:21. Interview with unknown interviewee begins at 09:15.
