Abstract for Mitchell: [00:00–32:06] On LG060Goreau_Side1, in this July 20, 1973 phone interview, Goreau and Aldus Mitchell discuss the end of Jackson's life, her health at the time, and the various real estate and legal issues that she faced, including the drafting of her will and people who may be omitted from it. They then speak about Jackson's chicken restaurant venture and Galloway's efforts to "feather his own nest" through the franchise – 01:22. Mitchell explains how Jackson shifted her legal relationship to Gene Shapiro near the end of her life, especially for matters related to her temple, and her final will – 09:30. They go on to discuss their inability to be in touch with Jackson in the last month of her life – 16:28. They question the quality of care Jackson was receiving, as she was no longer working with her primary physician and how certain people barred interactions with Jackson – 25:10. Mitchell reveals that there was a second unknown will that at the time was not found – 29:42. Recording with Mitchell ends abruptly at 32:06 and resumes at 44:01. Mitchell discusses Jackson firing Gene Shapiro shortly before her death. The interview continues on LG069Goreau_Side2 with discussion of Jackson's financial concerns at the end of her life. They comment how no one understood how ill Jackson was at the time, their bafflement at her medical care, and how her death was unexpected. Mitchell discusses his favorite memory of Jackson, a "Louisiana-type dinner" celebrating the treatment she received from Dr. Barkley. He recalls with fondness the way she interacted with suburban white women and her introduction of Louisiana food to them – 3:58. The interview ends with Goreau asking Mitchell about Bob Ming and contracts with her various record labels – 10:23.
