  • Hi, my name is Sarah Covert.
  • I am a Newcomb College
  • alumna of the class of 2005
  • and a career consultant
  • at Tulane's
  • Freeman School of Business in the
  • Career Management Center.
  • I am happy to share with you this poem
  • that has meant so much to me
  • for so much of my life.
  • It's one that I learned as a child
  • that I still resonate with.
  • One of the ways
  • that I often
  • have been able to take care of myself
  • is by going to a playground
  • and taking a ride on a swing.
  • And this poem captures
  • that feeling of going up and down
  • in the swing that means so much to me.
  • Right now with playgrounds closed,
  • I've had
  • to find ways to comfort myself inside.
  • But it's just such a good reminder
  • of how important nature is to me
  • and I look forward to the point
  • at which we can go back into nature more.
  • And for now, I'm
  • just grateful for small walks
  • and my balcony and patio
  • and this opportunity to participate.
  • The Swing by Robert Louis Stevenson.
  • How do you like to
  • go up in a swing, up in the air so blue?
  • Oh, I do think it
  • the pleasantest thing ever
  • a child can do!
  • Up in the air and over the wall,
  • till I can see so wide, rivers and trees
  • and cattle and all over the countryside—
  • Till I look down on the garden green,
  • down on the roof so brown— Up in the air
  • I go flying again,
  • up in the air and down!
