1973-Tulane v LSU
Color footage with intermittent sound of the football game between Tulane University and Louisiana State University, played in front of a record-breaking crowd of 86,340 spectators in Tulane Stadium on December 1, 1973. This short video clip shows highlights of the historic game which broke the 25-year drought of a Green Wave victory over the Tigers. Tulane wins 14-0, the first time Tulane had won a match against LSU since November 27, 1948. The footage opens on the sidelines, showing two Green Wave mascots sparring with a Tiger mascot, then moves on to spirited Tulane cheerleaders. Action on the field begins at (0:28), with three LSU running plays, the ball being carried by Brad Davis, and stops being made by David Griener, David Lee, Jim Gueno, and John Washington. On the fourth play, LSU quarterback Mike Miley is sacked by Tulane defensive end Mike Trapani. The following play shows Tulane QB Terry Looney pass the ball to Tom Fortner; the ball is tipped, but Fortner makes the reception anyway and gains positive yardage. Another completion between the same pair advances the ball, but on the following play, Looney's run ends in a tackle. The ball next appears in LSU's hands (1:53), when we see Miley throw a pass which Lee picks off; Miley makes the tackle. The following play shows Miley with the ball again, pitching out to Terry Robiskie, who is brought down by Griener, Wyatt Washington, and David Lee after a nice gain. Looney hands off to Doug Bynum (2:20), but he is driven out of bounds by Mike Williams and Mike Pike. Tulane's defense is highlighted in the next series of six video clips: (2:30) LSU seemingly makes a fumble but retains the ball; (2:42) Miley is sacked by Charles Hall; (2:55) Miley hands off to Davis, who is stuffed at the line by Rusty Chambers; (3:07) Miley is brought down in the backfield by Nathan Bell; (3:17) Miley fakes a handoff and is run down in the backfield by Chambers, Bell, and Mark Olivieri; (3:30) Miley runs but is hit in the backfield by Paul Brock. The next video clip (3:43) shows the ultimate highlight of the game, the first touchdown, which Tulane scored just before the end of the first half. In the clip, Looney drops back to pass and throws a bomb downfield to Darwin Willie, who hauls it in just after crossing the goal line, stumbles, and rolls into the LSU band who is assembled at the end of the field, waiting to go on for the halftime show. The rest of the Tulane team does a dogpile on Willie in the end zone. There is one more quick clip of a play showing Tulane QB Steve Foley taking a snap, which doesn't seem to progress anywhere, and the final few seconds closes on the scoreboard, which shows the final score: LSU 0, Tulane 14.
