''This building, erected in the center of a square opposite the south end of the Capitol is a memorial to Alabama and Alabamians in the World War. It is used exclusively for the State Department of Archives and History. In addition to the administrative sub-divisions of the Department, a number of rooms are devoted to museums, collections including Indian, military, Alabama-French, William Rufus King, and several fine arts museums. The building is a joint Federal and State Project and has cost exclusive of the lot $650,000.00.''
